Our immersive photography and videography workshops take place from 10:30am to 5:30pm on Friday, October 5, 2018, giving you the entire first day of the Festival to soak up knowledge from several of the most respected professionals in the industry. WITH XYZA CRUZ BACANI

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN IN XYZA’S WORKSHOP

Learn how to capture the most decisive moments in street photography by using different elements of design and perspective with globally-renowned photojournalist Xyza Cruz Bacani. This hands-on workshop includes a discussion on various street composition techniques and how to apply them as solid foundations for pursuing documentary photography.

Photographers will explore how images can be used to enact social change, from visual aesthetics to ethics. The class will feature a photo walk using FUJIFILM cameras and lenses to apply what you’ve learned. There will be a curation of the images taken by students after the photo walk, which will be sure to offer insight and direction.

ABOUT
XYZA CRUZ BACANI

Xyza Bacani is a Filipina street and documentary photographer who has been featured in various international publications. While employed as a domestic worker in Hong Kong, she used photography to raise awareness about under-reported stories, focusing on migrants, and human rights issues.

Xyza is one of the Magnum Foundation 2015 Human Rights Fellows, and has exhibited worldwide. She has won awards in photography and gained worldwide recognition, and is the recipient of a resolution passed by the Philippines House of Representatives in her honor.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN IN ELIA’S WORKSHOP

Join X-Photographer Elia Locardi as he walks you through his entire travel and landscape photography workflow while focusing on how he utilizes the power of the FUJIFILM X Series and GFX systems to create a unique visual style. This hands-on workshop will focus on the philosophy of travel photography as well as the core in-camera and in-the-field techniques necessary to capture quality results.

In addition, Elia will demonstrate how he maximizes the potential of FUJIFILM RAW files in post-processing to achieve sharp, balanced, and visually impactful final results. With the rapid evolution of mirrorless technology and social networks and the increasing opportunities they present, Elia shares how he builds and maintains a strong social media and online presence with his photography.

ELIA LOCARDI

Elia Locardi is an internationally acclaimed professional travel photographer, videographer, writer, public speaker, FUJIFILM X-Photographer, and highly skilled educator who spends his life shooting some of the most beautiful places in the world.

Location independent since March 2012, he and his wife live a 100% mobile lifestyle, perpetually traveling from country to country, continuously circling the globe. Since he began traveling full time in 2009, Elia has visited more than 55 countries, flown over one million miles, and collaborated with major companies, brands, countries, and tourism agencies all over the world.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN IN ANDREW & TEHILLAH’S WORKSHOP

Discover the high-quality cinema capabilities of FUJIFILM X Series in this course led by director/producer Andrew Primavera and director of photography Tehillah De Castro. With a myriad of combined experience on narrative and commercial projects, Andrew and Tehillah will walk guests through the best practices of executing a professional video shoot.

Topics will range from the technical features of the camera to the creative prep work needed to get the most out of the X-H1. Over the daylong course, participants will learn all of the ins and outs of creative content and filmmaking by working on a collaborative music video. This will provide attendees with practical, hands-on experience and high-quality output to walk away with.

Andrew Primavera is part of the team at MGX Creative, an award-winning creative agency and production company based in LA. Using emotionally relatable themes to connect with audiences, he has enjoyed working on international campaigns for some of the world’s most exciting brands.

Tehillah De Castro is a talented director of photography based in the USA who has brought her innovative style to a long list of narrative films, music videos, and commercials for a variety of brands and artists.

WEDDING & LIFESTYLE PHOTOGRAPHY
WITH MICHELLE TURNER

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN IN MICHELLE’S WORKSHOP

Capture beautiful moments and environmental portraits with wedding and lifestyle photographer Michelle Turner. You’ll cover everything from the successful elements of an environmental portrait to mixing genres with the FUJIFILM X Series (from lifestyle to documentary) to create a cohesive record for the couple or family.

Michelle will take you through composition, posing, prompting, lighting (both natural and created), and more to help you take your wedding and family lifestyle photography to the next level. Finally, Michelle will share her post-processing tips and tricks for creating results that work for your brand and resonate in the market.

MICHELLE TURNER

Michelle Turner is a renowned wedding and lifestyle photographer based in California. Using a combination of documentary wedding photography and environmental portraiture, Michelle likes capturing real moments rather than staged ones.

Her outstanding work has been published in national and international publications, and she is one of the top 100 wedding photographers in the USA. She is an alumna of Brooks School and Georgetown University, has published three books, and is also an experienced speaker and educator.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN IN OMAR’S WORKSHOP

Learn professional techniques to photograph movement in this hands-on course led by X-Photographer Omar Z. Robles. Dive into the ethos behind dance photography and learn how to capture the most precise and emotive moments, from shooting to sharing.

Omar will begin by reviewing the functionality of X Series and GFX cameras for those new to Fujifilm. With the help of professional dancers, he will then lead photographers in maximizing the fast-action features on FUJIFILM cameras to create unforgettable imagery on-site. Finally, Omar will share his insights, tips, and tricks relating to creating a meaningful brand through such imagery, from making friends in the dance industry to sharing images on social media.

OMAR Z. ROBLES

Before juxtaposing the clean lines of dancers against rugged city landscapes, Omar Z. Robles was shooting celebrities, athletes, artists, politicians, and city dwellers for the Chicago Tribune’s Hoy, Metro San Juan, and Latino Leaders. In New York City, he transformed the aesthetic of his street photography by substituting the New Yorker with the New York dancer.

The resulting miniature stories, as told by the gentle flow of the dancers’ bodies, have been featured in local and international media such as Mashable, Instagram’s Blog, The Phoblographer, Huffington Post, and the Daily Mail among others, and have earned him more than 312,000 Instagram followers.

Have you been toying with the idea of trying out a new style? Would you like to improve your general knowledge, or maybe you just can’t decide between Friday’s courses? These handy tutorials and condensed versions of our main workshops take place on Saturday, October 6, 2018 and offer the perfect opportunity to learn new techniques, explore different genres, and find fresh inspiration from our talented FUJIFILM X-Photographers and experts. Each participant may select up to three.

One and a half wonderful miles of street performers, artists, vendors, and restaurants stretch alongside one of the most beautiful beaches in LA, and our public photo walk will give you the opportunity to capture every eccentric detail.
